Challenge:

Determine the handicapped accessibility requirements for the north entrance to the basement and provide services required to accommodate upgrading the building’s electrical system.

Solution:

CBI determined handicapped accessibility requirements for the North entrance to the basement. Some work included in this process was the redesign of the corridor, office, and storage spaces to provide access, and the inclusion of a new unisex handicapped toilet as well. Structural and architectural services were required to accommodate upgrading of the building’s electrical system. A new electrical transformer vault in the basement was created, as well as a lintel design to carry 5 floors of structure, window louver design, doors, and fire rated ceiling. New electrical closets, (3) on each floor, were created and coordinated with storage, exhibits, and laboratories as well as the existing structure.
