Copper Gutter Rot

Challenge:

Deterioration (rotting) of the wood structure blocking a copper gutter. The building is over 120 years old and the gutters were original.

Solution:

Inspect your roof edge and gutters annually for leaks. Copper joints should be well soldered. Asphaltic coatings are not compatible with copper. Also, be sure that masonry mortar joints are properly pointed to limit water infiltration.
