Challenge:

Perform an exterior historical restoration and repair in a phased sequence to meet budgetary requirements.

Solution:

Repairs concentrated on deterioration of carved decorative sandstone elements around the entire building exterior. Care was taken to replace the deteriorated areas with Jahn restoration material, which allows the mason to carve and replicate detail. Extensive exploration of color of the patching material was performed in advance of the work, and several colors were selected in order to replicate the natural variations in the stone. Work also included leak repair with the relining of all the gutters, leak investigation with water testing, as well as destructive removals to view interior assemblies. Repointing of the entire building foundation at the exterior was intended to address some basement leaks. All windows were resealed using custom color caulking and all windows received new gaskets.
