Challenge:

Provide historical restoration services associated with the repairs to Symphony Hall. This hundred-year-old building, in the Greek Revival style, is comprised of Indiana limestone and has a large ceremonial stair entrance which flanks the Campanile, a 200’ tall tower in the center of the complex.

Solution:

As part of an open contract with the City of Springfield, CBI provided architectural and engineering design services associated with the historical restoration of Symphony Hall’s windows. CBI worked closely with the Springfield and Massachusetts Historical Commissions to maintain the historic integrity of Symphony Hall. The scope of work included the removal of the sashes to a controlled off-site environment where the windows were stripped, repaired with an epoxy and Dutchmen, primed, painted and reglazed. The work also included in-kind replacement of many severely deteriorates window parts and custom hardware. The frames and trim were repaired and painted on-site and the project was completed on-time prior to the Basketball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
