Challenge:

Evaluate the cause and extent of the cracking and spalling of the glazed brick on this four story classroom and office building, including the office of the president of the university.

Solution:

The glazed brick could not be matched with any modern brick. The major areas of deterioration were at the corners and the roof level spandrel. CBI designed the replacement of the brick in these areas with bands of limestone masonry. Sound bricks were salvaged from the bricks that were removed and this brick was used to replace spalled bricks in other areas. CBI also evaluated the condition of the roofing membrane and designed a replacement roofing systems for the building.
