Challenge:

CBI has been involved in a variety of projects at the Sciences Library, including roof replacement, plaza waterproofing, revolving door replacement, wind tunnel testing and determine as to why the revolving doors had failed over twenty times since the facility was built.

Solution:

Replaced roof with new single-ply PVC membrane over rigid iso insulation with careful detailing to accommodate over twenty antennae on the roof and cabling that runs along the interior of the parapets of the roof. The design of the roof was improved to overcome design faults, such as drainage and bird mitigation. Plazas were repaired for leaks, ongoing for years. The investigation of wind currents proved that wind had contributed to the failures. Mitigation concepts were proposed, and the doors were replaced.
