Carl Hyman Towers Elderly Housing Revere Housing Authority, Revere, Massachusetts
Challenge:
Provide architectural and engineering design services associated with the design of roof repairs at the Carl Hyman Towers Housing Development in Revere, Massachusetts.
Solution:
The building is an eleven story masonry structure built in 1976. The flat roof and adjacent sloping roof over the community area were reported to be leaking badly. CBI determined that water entry was linked to tears in the membrane and missing mortar at the reglet joint on the top of the sloped roof. The roofing was beyond its life expectancy, and CBI recommended it be replaced. The scope of work included substrate repairs and replacement of the rigid tapered insulation, roof drainage and flashing. In addition, CBI also provided design services for waterproofing membrane and concrete repair at the plaza surrounding the Carl Hyman Tower.
