Evaluate and make recommendations for repair for the existing cast in place concrete grandstands at the Veteran’s Memorial Stadium. The existing cast in place concrete stadium, originally built in the 1930’s by the WPA, is severely deteriorated and does not meet current building code requirements.
CBI prepared plans and specifications for the complete repair and restoration of the grandstands including concrete repair, epoxy injection, waterproof membrane, expansion joints, breathable coatings, as well as new handicap accessibility upgrades and egress. The renovations also included the installation of a new synthetic multi-sport turf athletic field and running track. During the design process, the Stadium Committee added the design of new concession stands, toilet rooms, and locker room facilities were added beneath the grandstands in a “city square” arrangement. The concept was to gather spectators under the grandstands in a protected area to utilize those services. The new design included complete landscape renovations, graphic design upgrades, as well as new monuments to commemorate the various branches of service to which the Stadium is dedicated.
