Challenge:

Provide the structural design for a concrete home.

Solution:

A number of challenges were faced by the design team to meet the unique architectural intent, which included large cantilevered balconies off the back of the building. The residence was constructed with insulated cast-in-place concrete walls to provide a large thermal mass and create a more energy efficient home. The floors are constructed with precast concrete planks that span the full width of the building to provide large open areas on the interior. Self-consolidating concrete was used to achieve the desired smooth architectural finish on the cast-in-place walls.
